THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AUTO BODY REPAIR AND AUTO REPAIR

Most people use the terms “auto repair” and “auto body repair” interchangeably, thinking there is no difference. Talk to any professional at any auto body repair San Fernando Valley has to offer, and you’ll find there’s actually a pretty big difference!

Auto Repair refers to any mechanical and electrical repairs needed. For example, you’d take your car to an auto repair shop to get the oil changed, fix a broken tail light, or repair a busted transmission. Anything that has to do with the “guts” and internal components of the car, that’s done at an auto repair shop.

Auto Body Repair, on the other hand, refers to the “body” of the vehicle: the frame, windshield, windows, roof, doors, fenders, bumpers, hood, trunk, etc. When it’s dealing with the exterior or shell of the car, you’re going to want to take the car to an auto body shop.

When people find themselves in an accident or collision, their first thought is usually for the internal components of the vehicle. Was the engine, suspension, transmission, or other important internal parts of the vehicle damage? Without these parts, the vehicle won’t run properly. Thus, they take it to their auto repair shop to make sure all the “guts” are in good working order.

But the auto repair shop will really only be able to repair the inside of the vehicle. To restore the exterior of the car, you’ll need to take it to an auto body shop. There, the auto body repair specialists will go over the frame to make sure it wasn’t severely damaged. They’ll fix any dents and scrapes, repair the damaged paint, and restore your car so it looks as good as new.

Auto body shops do more than just treat exterior damage; they also have mechanics that can deal with the damage to the car’s internal components. As they’re assessing the damage caused to the body in the collision, they’re also looking for more serious internal damage. If something needs to be repaired, they can do both interior and exterior repairs at the same time.

After an accident, always take your car to an “auto body repair shop” rather than an “auto repair shop”. This will save you from having to take your vehicle to a second location and pay a second price to have the external damage repaired. At an auto body shop—like Network Auto Body—we’ll fix everything inside and out. By the time you leave, your vehicle will be in pristine, road-worthy condition once more!
